Biography[Edit]Edit

Early years of life[Edit]Edit

Aguilera's father is a sergeant in the u.s. Army, coming from Ecuador. Her mother, Spanish teacher, is of Irish descent. When Aguilera was seven, her parents decided to separate. According to Aguilera and her mother suffered the family under the domestic violence by her father. This later became a major theme in her music, as in the songs "I'm OK" (Stripped) and "Oh Mother" (Back to Basics). Together with her mother and her younger sister pulled Aguilera after the separation with her grandmother in, in Rochester (Pennsylvania). Here she has her childhood spent largely.

Aguilera had since childhood ambition to be a singer. It was her grandmother who discovered her singing talent. To her musical influences include Aretha FranklinEtta JamesMadonnaWhitney Houston and Nina Simone. Also, the musical The Sound of Music influenced her. As a child, Aguilera known everywhere as "the girl with the big voice", something her in her youth has more problems than happiness. She participated in local talent shows and singing contests, but often the opponents pulled back when they heard that they had to against Aguilera. People were jealous of her and she was ignored and bullied at school. At one point she decided to keep secret even her singing talent so they don't would be bullied.

Aguilera made her television debut on 15 March 1990 as a participant in Star Search, they did not win. In 1993 she participated in The New Mickey Mouse Club, a TV program in which song, dance and acting were central. Aguilera stood by her colleagues of the show (including Justin TimberlakeJC ChasezRhona BennettRyan GoslingKeri Russell and Britney Spears) known as "the diva". When the program stopped in 1994, Aguilera began recording demos in the hope to earn a record deal. At the age of fourteen, she took her first song, "All I Wanna Do", a duet with Japanese singer Keizo Nakanishi. In 1997 she participated in the Golden Stag International Festival, where they shared the stage with Sheryl Crow and Diana Ross.

Career[Edit]Edit

In 1998 she was warming up for the soundtrack "Mulan" when they had proved that they had a high, powerful voice with which they have a high "E" an octave above middle "C" could sing in the song "Run to You" byWhitney Houston, that she had included in her bathroom. The video clip that had to promote the film showed a young Aguilera with short hair. Reflection was nominated for a Golden Globe for "Best Original Song for a Motion Picture" in 1998.

Debut[Edit]Edit

Her first album, "Christina Aguilera", came out on August 24, 1999 and sold over eight million copies in the us. Her cd defeated p. Diddy's second album Forever. The singles "Genie in a Bottle", "What a Girl Wants" and "Come on Over (All I Want is You)" all came in the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999 and 2000. Also the single "I Turn To You" did well with a third place. But Aguilera had not only commercial success; in 2000 she was awarded a Grammy for "Best New Artist", with which they defeated Britney Spears . She was also nominated for "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for" Genie in a Bottle ". "Obvious", the last song on the cd, was an original song they had submitted to Ron Fair before they closed a contract with RCA Records.

In 2000 Aguilera emphasized her Latino-origin by a Spanish-language album, Mi Reflejo, back. This cd contained Spanish versions of the songs on her English-language cd, but also new Spanish songs. The cd earned her a "Latin Grammy" on for "Best Female Pop Vocal Album". The single "Falsas Esperanzas" came in the Top 40 in Argentina in 2001. Ricky Martin asked her to sing a duet with him on "Nobody Wants to Be Lonely" for his cd "Sound Loaded". It was his second single from that cd. The single reached the top 5 in Germanyand Great Britain . In order to measure a rawer image she changed her appearance in the course of 2001. First appeared an even reasonably civilized nose button but not much later there appeared also a piercing in her lower lip.

Stripped[Edit]Edit

Aguilera's CDs were sold well, but still she wasn't satisfied. She was then still a "bubblegumpop"-artist and did not feel comfortable with the music and image that her team had created for her. She wanted her next cd would have more depth, both in the music as the lyrics. They changed of management because they overbooked and because they had no say in the musical decisions and Irving Azoff took as its new manager. The change also made for a change in management in Aguilera's image.

After many delays came on 29 October 2002 Aguilera's second English-language cd from: "Stripped". The cd did not get such good reviews as her first cd. Stripped is about 80 minutes long and shows a variety of subjects and styles of music. "Impossible", written by Alicia Keys, was inspired by jazz . "Soar" was inspired by gospel and is about someone who teaches stand on their own two feet. "Make Over" is a pop-rock song about someone who wants to be an individual and other people who are trying to change her. Aguilera's biggest challenge was not vocally, but emotionally, as the song "I'm Ok". This song is about the fact that she was abused by her father as a little girl. She thanks her mother for the love she donated her during this period in her life. So she sings: ' And every day afraid to come home/In fear of what I might see, next/Bruises fade, father/But the pain remains the same/I still remember how you kept me so afraid... '

It went to this cd not so much to Aguilera's music, but especially to her new, more provocative image launch. When the cd came out, she participated in a photo shoots for magazines such as Maxim and Rolling Stone. In many of those pictures she was naked or almost naked. She denied that they did this for publicity, but she said the pictures better fit her new, real image then the image of 1999. Her spicy look had a negative effect in the us. Although the video "Dirrty" became a hit on MTV, the single remained on 48 and this quickly fell off the charts. "Dirrty" was a worldwide hit, and reached the number 1 position in many countries. The video for this single was highly controversial. In particular by the racy clothing and erotic scenes in this clip was Aguilera's image finally changed. [source? ]The second single, "Beautiful", was quickly released in the us at the end of 2002 and immediately became a radio success. The following two years were "Fighter", "Can't Hold Us Down" and "The Voice Within" was released. By the success of these singles remain the cd on the lists could well into 2004. There were about 4 million copies sold in the US alone.

Aguilera was sung by her not only with numbers in the charts. So she wrote the first single ' Miss Independent ' Kelly Clarksons 's debut album, ' Thankful '. The song would be also on the cd originally Stripped , but took out the cd just not.

Aguilera was nominated for "Number 1 Female Artist" in 2003, but this award was won by Beyoncé .

Back to Basics[Edit]Edit

Back to Basics is the third completely English studio recording of Aguilera and also her first double cd. The confirmed release date of the album was August 15, 2006. Aguilera describes her next cd as a soul recordingcombined with elements of blues and jazz from the years 20, 30 and 40 with contemporary influences. She works along with new faces from the hip hop producers such as DJ PremierKwame and Mark Ronson. She works again together with Linda Perry, who worked with Aguilera to Stripped (2002).

While recording this album fell Aguilera especially on by her old-fashioned hairstyle in order to better empathize with the songs and the spirit of the age; to see the emotion and the energy and especially during the singing of the high notes. Also, it seems this look much like that of Marilyn Monroe. In order to prepare on the album they are surrounded with old photographs of Billie Holiday and Pearl Bailey. She wanted to literally get into the core of that music. Actors call it 'method acting' according to Aguilera is singing the ' method '. The vision of Aguilera shot for the album from a poem that she wrote during her last world tour in which she wondered: "So do I really want to sing? So I want to really dance? I so enjoy making music? " The answer turned out to be soul and blues music.

Aguilera contacted several producers that they thought that had enough imagination with her going along with the old blues world via a letter in which she explained her vision. There was also a compilation of more than 30 songs-from the 1920s to the 1960s-influenced Embedded that her. They also encouraged the producers to the songs on the compilation cd to be cut in such a way and experimenting with it in order to create something new. " In February 2006, during MTV's TRL Awards, she played three unfinished songs from her next album, Back to Basics Candyman, and Ain't No Other Man, the first single from the album. The world premiere of Ain't no other man took place during the MTV Movie Awards. Also she did under the name Baby Jane (she has renounced Xtina) a couple of small jazz clubs to promote as its new songs.

Ain't No Other Man after it was announced that the second single was Hurt by Back To Basics. The song was in the Dutch Top 40 again in second place. The clip of the song is the first clip which she also produced. Tell Mewas at the end of 2006, the second single from Diddy's album Press Play, released, where to hear Aguilera in also is. In the spring of 2007 was Candyman released as the third single from the album. This clip was produced by herself. Slow Down Baby is a download only promo single that was and can be heard on the radio. This applies only in New Zealand and Australia.

Back to basics in a special tour edition was released for fans. This is the normal CDs on + clips of Ain't no other man, Hurt & Candyman. Also The making of Candyman is on this dvd. This special edition was released at the end of June 2007.

Aguilera based this album especially on the birth of her first son, Max. Fans had to expect a new, more futuristic style. The first single Not Myself Tonight, with a controversial clip appeared in april and received no. 23 on the u.s. Billboard Hot 100, a setback for a comeback single. Also in other parts of the world had the single struggled to the top 10 to pick up. The biggest criticism of this single had to do with the clip. These would be considered by many to be too much resemble the clips of Lady Gaga. [source? ]With 110,000 copies sold in its first week, debuted the album Bionic on no. 3 in the us but slumped after pretty road. Woohoo, a single with Nicki Minaj, followed as promotional single in may, followed by the second single You Lost Me in July, a ballad with a more familiar sound of Aguilera. This single was not a success. I Hate Boys became the next single and was released on July 28. The album had-in contrast to the singles-less effort to the top 10 of the charts. The album, however, sank fairly quickly in the lists. The hype around the singer turned out not to be there this time. The album was sold 1,000,000 times.
